ROSES BEYOND ITS BEST-KNOWN BEACHES
The eight places in this guide are located in the Roses sector of Cap de Creus Natural Park, along a coastline that changes considerably within just a few kilometres. From Punta Falconera to Cala Jóncols, rocky headlands, small sheltered coves, broader beaches and some of the park’s most distinctive natural landmarks follow one another.
These destinations are not all the same. Some are small, sheltered coves; others have wider, more accessible beaches; and places such as Punta Falconera and Cap Norfeu stand out mainly for their scenery and coastal views. This variety makes it possible to choose between an easy visit, a walk by the sea or a more complete excursion.

Our selection of eight coves and coastal spots in Cap de Creus
1. Punta Falconera
This impressive viewpoint is the first stop along the wilder side of the Roses coastline. It offers sweeping views of the Bay of Roses and Cap de Creus Natural Park. Its history as a former military base also adds an intriguing historical dimension to the landscape.
2. Cala de Lledó
A secluded spot that can only be reached on foot or by boat, away from the busiest areas of the coast. Its unspoilt surroundings and clear water make it an excellent place for snorkelling and enjoying the quiet.
3. Cala Murtra
A naturist cove surrounded by vegetation, well suited to visitors looking for privacy and peace. The access is not particularly easy, but the effort is rewarded with an unspoilt setting and clear water for swimming and relaxing.
4. Cala Rostella
This cove stands out for its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. Surrounded by cliffs, it offers a secluded setting close to nature. Its marine life makes it a good place for snorkelling or simply enjoying the scenery.
5. Cala Montjoi
Best known as the former home of the iconic El Bulli restaurant, this cove combines the natural scenery of Cap de Creus with an important chapter in the history of fine dining. Its coarse sand and generally calm water are well suited to kayaking and paddleboarding.
6. Cala Pelosa
Known for its turquoise water and relaxed atmosphere, this cove is a pleasant place to spend the day in the sun. A nearby beach bar also makes it easy to stop for a drink or something to eat by the sea.
7. Cap Norfeu
An emblematic landmark within Cap de Creus Natural Park. Its distinctive shape and rich marine environment make it a special destination for walkers, divers and nature lovers. It is also an outstanding viewpoint over the Mediterranean.
8. Cala Jóncols
The final stop on this coastal journey is one of the wildest and best-preserved coves around Roses. Surrounded by vineyards and with a hotel nearby, Cala Jóncols offers the opportunity to enjoy the sea, the landscape and the local cuisine.

How do you get to the coves of Cap de Creus from Roses?
Access depends on which cove you would like to visit. From Roses, you can enter the southern part of the park via the Montjoi road or follow the coast towards Canyelles Petites, Almadrava and Punta Falconera. Can you reach the coves by car?
Yes, although vehicle access is regulated at certain times during the summer, and parking is limited in some areas. Check our latest information about access to Cap de Creus.
Which coves require you to continue on foot?
At several of the smaller coves, including Cala de Lledó, Cala Murtra and Cala Rostella, the final section may follow narrow paths or routes that are only accessible on foot. At Cap Norfeu, the trails through the interior of the area must also be explored on foot.
When is access to the park restricted?
Restrictions are generally introduced during the summer months. Exceptional closures may also be imposed because of wildfire risk.
Can you explore this area by bicycle?
Yes, but not all paths within the park are suitable or authorised for cycling. You should use only permitted roads and tracks, avoiding the Camí de Ronda and other narrow sections or paths reserved for pedestrians.
