🍽️ Cal Campaner
Restaurant 3 km from Casdanna Roses — Highly recommended!
📌 Category: EAT & DRINK
🐟 Type: FRESH FISH RESTAURANT
📍 Where: Carrer de Mossèn Carles Feliu, 23, 17480 Roses.
Description:
Our favourite for over 15 years, and a place we’ve been returning to for more than two decades. Exceptional seafood and fresh fish, mostly sourced from the Roses fish market.
In the fresh-fish segment—where prices are typically higher, especially compared with venues that rely on frozen product—this restaurant delivers guaranteed quality at relatively fair prices for the produce served.
Cal Campaner is a family-run business. Over fifty years ago, Alfonso—the family patriarch—opened the restaurant. Today it’s run by his daughter Anna (front of house) and her partner Joan (chef, who worked at Ferran Adrià’s El Bulli). Together they lead the second generation at the helm.
Highlights:
Don’t miss the Roses prawns, impeccably seared on the plancha by chef Joan. Their house-made “butterfly” anchovies are excellent too—top-quality, large-sized fish presented with both fillets still joined at the tail.
And if you can, opt for any of the whole fresh fish roasted over the Josper grill: smoky, crisp exterior with a juicy, tender interior. Exquisite.

Tips:
- Go early: best variety and shorter queues.
- Ask them to prep it: cleaned, filleted and ready to cook.
- For CASDANNA: request ice; bring a cool bag if you’ll be out all day.
- Prices: vary by catch and season; auction-fresh quality is worth it.
- Easy idea: whole fish baked with salt, olive oil and herbs; or quick-seared prawns on the plancha.
Note: opening hours and availability may change with the season and auction activity — best checked in situ the same day.
